The History of Meridian Weight Management Center

Meridian Weight Management Center was founded in 2013 by Dr. Andrea Goodwin, and her emergency department nurse husband, David Bonner. Dr. Goodwin is a board-certified Family Medicine and Obesity Medicine expert practicing in Meridian, Mississippi. Her interest in obesity medicine came through her own and her families struggle to lose weight and build a healthier life for themselves. Through this personal battle was born the desire to help others struggling with the disease of obesity and the health problems associated with it. This desire to teach patients and treat obesity built the first brick-and-mortar Meridian Weight Management Center clinic. Since 2013, Meridian Weight Management Center has expanded to multiple clinics and built an on-line presence. In addition to Dr. Goodwin and David Bonner, the Meridian Weight Management Center team now consists of nurse practitioners, behavioral therapists, personal trainers, nurses, nutritionists, and health coaches.

Dr. Goodwin is a 2000 graduate of the University of Mississippi School of Medicine and completed her residency training in Family Medicine at the University of Mississippi, in Jackson, MS, in 2003. In addition, she holds a B.S. from Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia (1988) and M.S. from the University of Memphis in Memphis, TN (1994). Dr. Goodwin is a frequent speaker on the disease of obesity and treatment options available for obesity. David Bonner is a registered nurse with extensive emergency department and nursing management experience. He has served as a regional trauma coordinator in Mississippi and is passionate about improving the quality of healthcare in rural Mississippi. Dr. Goodwin and David have four children and one grandchild.
